Pride 2017: Beyond Food, Fun, and Famous People
Stand Up For What You Believe In,
Even If It Means Standing Alone.
- Anonymous
In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, a group of mostly young LGBTQ people of color were among a few brave enough to stand up for what they believed in - their liberation from being policed and shamed for who they were and who they loved. Today we refer to this event as the Stonewall Riots - a watershed moment that has led to the struggle for LGBTQ social justice.
Those who participated in the Stonewall Riots gave courage to LGBTQ people to live unapologetically authentic lives without shame, only pride. Stonewall Veterans inspired a global movement that continues to shatter limitations placed upon LGBTQ people and communities. Every June we commemorate what took place nearly half a century ago through celebrating our pride.
While the world continues to become more welcoming for LGBTQ people, some of the same problems experienced by Stonewall Veterans still haunt LGBTQ communities today: family & religious rejection, police brutality, racism, sexism, transphobia, and employment discrimination. Here at RPC, we are deeply committed to addressing the challenges of employment discrimination by helping business leaders create LGBTQ inclusive workplaces, and supporting out entrepreneurs create the workplaces of their dreams.
If you're committed to tackling the challenges of LGBTQ employment discrimination, and expanding economic empowerment opportunities, check out some of the RPC resources & opportunities below:

New Report: Addressing Trans Violence. In February, RPC facilitated a multi-day think group session in New Orleans for transgender and non-binary (TNB) leaders and the Arcus Foundation. The purpose of the event was to gain a better understanding of the types of violence and discrimination endured by TNB people and communities, and to inform and encourage the philanthropic community to move resources to trans-led and trans-focused organizations and programs dedicated to responding and limiting this violence. If you know of funders who may have an interest in learning about these efforts, please share the report.
